Neighbourhood guide
Sherwood
Bustling residential area north of the city centre with one of Nottingham's best independent high streets, strong community spirit, and excellent food and drink options.
About Sherwood
Sherwood is a residential neighbourhood a couple of miles north of the city centre, strung out along the Mansfield Road. Despite the name's Robin Hood associations, this Sherwood is very much a city suburb — and one with one of the best independent high streets in Nottingham.
The stretch of Mansfield Road through Sherwood has quietly become a destination for independent shopping and eating. Coffee houses, an artisan bakery, a plant shop, a zero-waste refill store, a craft-beer bar, and neighbourhood restaurants sit side by side, giving the area a distinct, community-minded character that rewards a slow wander.
Green space is close at hand too. Woodthorpe Park, with its grounds and gardens, is a much-used local park, and the library and other community facilities give the neighbourhood its civic anchors.
Sherwood is comparatively underserved in local online search relative to how good its high street has become, which makes it a strong area for independent-business and community coverage.
