About City Centre

Nottingham city centre is where the city's food, culture, shopping, nightlife, and civic life all meet. It's built around Old Market Square — one of the largest public squares in the country, overlooked by the grand Council House — and radiates out to the castle, the Lace Market, and the independent quarter of Hockley.

The centre packs an enormous amount into a walkable area. Nottingham Castle, reopened after a major redevelopment and now run by the city's museums, sits above the Park Estate on one side; the historic Lace Market, with its Victorian warehouses, Nottingham Contemporary, the National Justice Museum, and the Broadway Cinema, anchors the other. Between them you'll find everything from the centuries-old market tradition to speciality coffee roasters, independent restaurants, and a celebrated live-music and bar scene.

It's also the city's transport hub. The railway station, the tram network, and the main bus routes all converge here, making the centre the natural base for exploring the rest of Nottingham and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

For visitors, the city centre is the obvious place to start. For businesses, it offers the highest footfall in the city — and the strongest competition — which is exactly why a clear, accurate listing matters.
