National Justice Museum

Immersive museum in Nottingham's former courthouse and gaol, telling the story of law, crime, and justice through exhibitions and live interpretation.

Set in the historic Shire Hall on High Pavement, the National Justice Museum occupies a genuine former courthouse, gaol, and police station — a single site where people were once arrested, tried, sentenced, and held. Visitors can explore Victorian and Georgian courtrooms, underground cells, and exhibitions spread over several floors, brought to life by costumed interpreters and live performances. Known until 2017 as the Galleries of Justice, it's one of the most atmospheric and unusual museums in the country, telling the story of law and crime in the very place it happened.
