Park & Outdoors
Bestwood Country Park
A 650-acre country park of woodland, heath and lakes on the edge of the city, with a Victorian colliery winding house at its heart.
On Nottingham's northern fringe, Bestwood mixes ancient woodland, grassland, the Mill Lakes and stretches of the River Leen across 650 acres, with a web of walking, cycling and horse-riding trails. Its standout heritage feature is the Grade II-listed Bestwood Winding Engine House (1873-76), the last relic of the colliery, opened for volunteer-led tours on selected Saturdays. Free to access with good wildlife and quiet trails, it suits walkers, families, cyclists and industrial-history enthusiasts.
