Caves
City CentreCity of Caves
A guided underground tour through a network of man-made sandstone caves beneath the city centre, including a medieval tannery and WWII air-raid shelters.
Nottingham sits on more than 800 caves carved into soft sandstone, and the City of Caves lets you walk through some of the most atmospheric, from a medieval tannery to slum dwellings and air-raid shelters used during the Second World War. It is one of the city's signature heritage experiences and works brilliantly as a rainy-day option for families and history fans. Tickets operate as an annual pass and advance booking is recommended at weekends and in school holidays; note there are no on-site toilets and the historic cave floors make it unsuitable for wheelchair users.
