Rufford Abbey Country Park combines the atmospheric ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian monastery with woodland, gardens and a lake set in the Nottinghamshire countryside. Children are well catered for with a large adventure playground featuring a double zip wire, climbing frames, sand area and a play village, plus seasonal mini golf, archery and boating. Admission is free (standard car park charge applies), and the park hosts year-round family events and trails. A relaxed mix of history and outdoor play, around 30 minutes from Nottingham.
